MSCDA - Business Tips for a Chemist


General

  • Be courteous to the salesman, Deliveryman, and Field Staff.
  • Be POLITE to your valued Customers and attend to them with a smiling face, explain doses, duration of therapy, side effects and adverse reactions of the drug etc.
  • Keep sufficient storage accommodation and space for future expansion.
  • Keep adquedate inventory and avoid unhealthy competition.
  • Night Service may be arranged and provided on rotation basis
    and inform the Authority to ensure sufficient security measures.
  • The items of a new company should be returned to the stockists if they are not sold within 3 (three) months from the date of supply.
  • Keep a monthly check of near expiry products and arrange to return the same to the concerned supplier.
  • Check BONUS OFFERS with the wholesaler before placing orders
    and share this information with the fellow Retailers.
  • Payments should be made to the suppliers within the stipulated
    time and date to ensure regular supply.
  • Return non-moveable and slow -moving items expiry date.
  • See that your expiry/breakage claims are settled within the
    stipulated time


    Maintenance

  • If possible computerize your business operations. This will give you inventory control, stock maintenance, trading Accounts, balance Sheets, profit and Loss etc.
  • Insure your Premises against Theft, Burglary, Fire, natural
    calamities etc.
  • See that your shop is free from PESTS by calling the Pest Control Company or by using different pest control measures.
  • Check your Electric Lines/meters atleast least once in a year
    to avoid any short circuit accidents or meter overcharging.
  • Keep the surroundings of you premises clean and make them environment friendly.
  • Check your Refrigerator once a year to obtain required temperature for storing vaccines, tetanus toxid etc. according to drug rules.
  • Keep one fire Extinguisher and First Aid Box in your premises.
  • Dust the furniture once a week to remove dust and cob-webs.
  • Make annual contracts for your Refrigerator, Air conditioner, Generator, etc.
  • Paint your licensed premised at least once in 2 (two) Years.
  • Keep a copy of MIMS, CIMS or IDR to know about the new information of products and their indications
  • In the event of an illegible prescription - contact the Doctor over phone to avoid wrong dispensing of medicines.
  • For regular customers of your locality, you can offer service like Home delivery.
  • Keep all the phone numbers of the doctors, Nursing Homes, Clinics, Hospitals and Ambulances handy, so that you can help your customers immediately if they ask for your guidance or advice during Emergency (C.D.A.G. Directory)
  • Keep one Oxygen Cylinder for Emergency.
  • Arrange theft alarm/ emergency alarm in your shop
  • Do not keep highly inflammable agents like Petrol/Kerosene etc. in your premises.
  • Keep a Switch-Gear to shut all the Electric lines except the Refrigerator.

MSCDA - Drug & Sales Tax Act Compliances for a Chemist

  • To display the Drug License, Trade License, Shop and Establishment Certificates, Pharmacist Registration Certificate, conspicuously inside the premises. Pharmacist Registration is to be renewed every 3 (three) years without fail.
  • To display a Sign Board in a conspicuous place.
  • Purchase should be made only against Bill/Invoice from a Licensed Stockist/ Distributor/ wholesaler.
  • Keep your stocks in Licensed Premises only to avoid seizure and prosecution.
  • Get your Drug, Trade, and shop Establishment Licenses renewed in time.
  • Charge exact Taxes to avoid legal difficulties
  • No items should be sold lower than the actual price.
  • Strictly follow the Drug Rules while selling medicines.
  • Medicines marked 'PHYSICIAN SAMPLE' should not be kept in the Licensed Premises.
  • LEAKAGE / BREAKAGE/EXPIRED items should be kept in a separate Box/cupboard with a clear /visible label "EXPIRED GOODS, NOT FOR SALE".
  • WEIGHTS & MEASURES INSTRUMENTS, if any, be renewed within the stipulated time (where there is a dispensing section).
  • Veterinary Medicines should be kept in a separate Shelf with Inscription - "NOT FOR HUMAN USE".
  • Never stock any doubtful, sub-standard and spurious medicines.
  • Maintain proper storage condition as mentioned on pack/ container.
  • Co-operate with the government officials while inspecting your shop and produce all required documents on demand. Keep the Drug Inspector visit book easily available in your premises.
  • Limit your purchase of Psychotropic Drugs/Habit forming medicines and sell the same against valid prescription of Registered medical Practitioner. Always issue Cash memo and put the stamp of your shop on the prescription.
  • Keep all Psychotropic/Habit forming medicines in a separate cupboard safely locked and sold under strict supervision.
  • Do not substitute the doctor's Prescription. In case of doubt/non availability consult the Doctor.
  • Do not dispense allopathic prescriptions of Ayurvedic/Homeopathic Doctors or Quacks.
  • Please see to it that all prescriptions are filled in under watchful supervision of the registered pharmacist and he personally signs the cash memo after checking it.
  • Keep your Pharmacy / Establishment neat and Clean.
